Gerrard Decides He Is Still King

Liverpool came back against Napoli, with none other than Steven Gerrard scoring three great second half goals, lifting the Merseysiders to a 3-1 victory at Anfield.

And holy crap, the goals were amazing.

Steven Gerrard's hat trick might just be the remedy that the club needs when they prepare to face Chelsea this weekend.

The Reds looked pretty rough, at best, in the first half. All credit in the world to Ezequiel Lavezzi, who slotted a brilliant ball under Reina for the goal. Napoli’s first half attack was incredible, and really seemed to throw the Liverpool defense off.

Didn’t agree with the removal of Jovanovic for Gerrard. Felt like the club should have taken off Poulsen, Spearing or Shelvey instead. It would be nice if the ‘brilliant football mind’ that is Roy Hodgson would actually give Jova a shot. This kid has talent, and he can/will be a big part of this offense, if only he had the time to do it.

Seriously, how do you not include him for the full 90? No Cole, no Kuyt, no Torres. We could use the speed.

Raul Meireles was silly good tonight. If you disagree, as Kenny Powers says, “Then change your mind.”

Lucas didn’t get much time tonight, but his through-ball to Gerrard for number three was amazing. I’m no Lucas fan, but he has been improving of late.

Also, Glen was awesome. Really looked good the whole game.

Really wasn’t impressed with Shelvey. Felt he could have done a lot better.

The tackle on Ngog was awful and it is an absolute crime that there was no card shown.

But the title of the post is about Stevie. So it is time to give you some Stevie love.

Goal 1- Completely opportunistic. Great eyes to see that DiSanctis didn’t have possession. Brilliant goal.

Goal 2- Good  from Johnson to draw the penalty (he definitely got messed up good on the play. Perfect positioning by Stevie in the bottom-left of the net. Just too fast and too far for DiSanctis to reach.

Goal 3- As previously stated, great through-ball by Lucas. Gerrard had a beautiful chip, and Liverpool are on top of the group with two matches to go.

The Reds now have eight points, and if they can beat second-place Steaua Bucharest on the next matchday, they will lock up the top spot in the group. Exactly where Liverpool wanted/needed/should have expected to be.

This has got to be a great boost for the club. Three straight wins. Two in the Premiership, and one in Europa. With Chelsea coming this weekend, this has to be exactly where the club wants to be, especially with the current circumstances.
